Frequently Asked Questions

Are services covered by Alberta Health Care?

Psychology services are not covered by Alberta Health Care; however, our practitioners hold all necessary credentials for clients to submit claims for reimbursement through extended health care benefits, either personally or through a partner’s coverage. After each session, a digital receipt is provided, which clients can submit to their insurance provider for reimbursement.

Can you direct bill my insurance?

Sahara Psychology is able to direct bill to some insurance providers. If direct billing is not available for your plan, we will provide an invoice that can be submitted for reimbursement.

How much does therapy cost and how are your fees determined?

Fees for services are in accordance with the Psychologists Association of Alberta (PAA) 2025 recommended fee schedule. The current recommended fee for individual and couples therapy is $235. At Sahara Psychology, we offer individual and couples therapy at a rate of $220. For more information on the recommended fee schedule, please visit: https://psychologistsassociation.ab.ca/resources/recommended-fee-schedule/

Where is your office located?

Sahara Psychology is located at Suite #104, 9618 42 Avenue NW, in Whitemud Business Park. Please note there is no exterior signage on the building. Look for the door with the address and the number 3 on it. There is ample parking available surrounding the building, except for spots marked with an Impark reserved sign.

To access the office, enter the building and go past the elevators. The office door itself does not say Sahara Psychology, but it is a psychology office. You can walk into the waiting room, remove your shoes, and have a seat. Your therapist will come to get you when it is your appointment time.

If your appointment is on a weekday and you arrive later than the last appointment time at 7:00 pm, the doors will be locked. In that case, your therapist will come to get you from outside.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Sahara Psychology is pleased to offer virtual or telehealth sessions through the JANE platform. The use of telehealth is supported by strong evidence demonstrating its effectiveness. Additionally, it offers a level of convenience that is critical for many clients and enables Sahara Psychology to provide services to individuals anywhere within the province of Alberta. This accessibility ensures that those who might otherwise face barriers to traditional in-person mental health care can receive the support they need.

Do you offer evening or weekend spots?

Yes, Sahara Psychology is pleased to offer sessions during daytime, evenings, and weekends.

Do you offer reduced-fee counselling or a sliding-scale?

Sahara Psychology offers a limited number of sliding scale and reduced-fee spaces to help make therapy more accessible. If you are seeking support but feeling constrained by financial barriers, you can reach out to info@saharapsychology.ca for more information.

Can I bring my baby to the session?

Just let us know beforehand so we can prepare a cozy and supportive space for you both. Can I switch between in-person and virtual sessions?

What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel?

Cancellations or missed appointments without sufficient notice may be subject to a cancellation fee as outlined in the practice’s policy.
